New version of Windows 10 on October 17th

New version of Windows 10 on October 17th

The next version of Windows 10 is on the way, named the “Fall Creators Update”, release date is October 17th – just a few days from now.
You can read about the details of the various new and updated features in various places, we’d recommend this Wired article in particular.
We’ve been keeping an eye on the so-called “insider builds” and are currently running a version which is probably going to be the same as the one officially released on the 17th.
For most of our customers this will be nothing more than an incremental upgrade – there are new features; Virtual Reality headset support and a new 3D version of Paint (which for many people will pass them by I’m sure), but the main thrust is more refinement of existing features (Window Update improvements make it clearer what’s going on there for example) and little features added here and there (you can pin contacts to the taskbar for easy access, although we haven’t really mastered this or decided if it’s actually useful).
The update will be provided in the same way as normal – we imagine a pop-up along the lines of “the next version of Window is waiting, choose a time to install”. Be prepared for a wait of 30 minutes or more staring at spinning dots and percents counting to 100 once you decide to install.
The Fall Creators Update continues the evolution of Windows 10 – it’s not life-changing, but builds on all the previous versions in a positive way. We recommend checking it out – if you don’t fancy upgrading yourself we can take care of it for you – just get in touch.
